At approximately 12:30am on Tuesday, many residents in Williams Lake experienced several power ‘bumps’ or flickers in service, while others lost power all together.

An older model ¾ ton Ford pick-up travelling northbound on MacKenzie Avenue had struck and destroyed a utility pole, carried on for approximately another 80-100 feet, struck a second pole which was also destroyed, before colliding and coming to rest against a third utility pole. The first pole came to rest across MacKenzie Avenue and approximately 110 feet from where it had been struck.  The second pole was dangling by wires.

The Williams Lake RCMP, Williams Lake Fire Department and BC Ambulance Services were on scene. One person left the scene by ambulance with undetermined injuries.

Debris and wood from the poles was spread across the road for hundreds of feet. The front right wheel assembly of the pick-up was broken, the windshield was completely smashed, the roof badly crumpled, and various other body damage was visible.

The RCMP investigation into the cause of this crash is in the early stages.
