TD Sponsors with $5,000

Jay Cheek, chair of the TRU North Gala accepts sponsorship cheque of $5000 from TD Bank’s Tracey Froesee and Denise Ivens. TD has been the formal sponsor of the Gala for the past two years.

TRU Splash of Colour Gala this year will be held on Saturday March 2, 2013 in the TRU auditorium. The evening will feature cocktails, dinner and dancing along with a live and silent auction. Tickets are $95 each and can be purchased at TRU or PMT Chartered Accountants.

Last year’s TRU Grit Gala raised $40,000 to put towards entrance scholarships and awards for prospective TRU Williams Lake students. Five high school students have already received concurrent studies awards and have enrolled in first year University courses. The students will receive dual credit towards high school and University.

ACE IT for $1000!

Brandon (John) Schwalm and Arlen Goodwillie have been awarded Secondary School Apprentice awards of $1000. Both students were enrolled as a Secondary School Apprentice, and were earning dual credit towards high school graduation and the first $480 hours of on the job training. Both Schwalm and Goodwillie completed 480 work based hours and, maintained a C+ average in Grade 12 subjects and completed 900 work based hours by the end of the calendar year to qualify for the scholarships.

TRU North International Days

TRU North wraps up International Days today. Throughout the week participants were able to sample cuisine from all over the world and attend presentations that were streamed in from Kamloops.

International Students currently enrolled at TRU North hosted Lunch and Learn activities on campus and spoke about their culture and differences they have witnessed since moving to Canada and experiencing life in Williams Lake. They also shared stories about University and how it compared to student life in their home country.

TRU North looks forward to seeing everyone out at International Days next year.

Don’t skid it, steer it.

The continuing studies department at Thompson Rivers University North has partnered with the British Columbia Mine Training Association (BCAMTA) to offer a skid steer course as part of an eight week Introduction to Mining program. BCAMTA is sponsoring the program which is being delivered to 28 students on the TRU North campus and to an additional 12 students on site in the community of Kluskus, west of Quesnel.

 

CSI becomes MythBusters
Confirmed. Busted. Plausible.

TRU North’s annual CSI open house has taken on a new MythBusters identity.

February 13, 2013 the University will be hosting a MythBusters Night open to the public from 7:00-9:00pm. The 13th day of February will feature a night of superstitions and busting myths. The evening will be full of giveaways and a pair of Beats by Dre will be up for grabs!

Did you know that residential wood burning is a major contributor to poor air quality in the Cariboo? Most of us blame industry and automobiles for 'bad air'.   The fact is wood smoke from residential burning is another contributor to particulate matter in the air we breathe.
