The Williams Lake Indian Band ('WLIB') today announced that it is nearing completion of the detailed design of the infrastructure required to service its Coyote Rock development lands along Highway 97.

“This is a huge step for our community and for the Williams Lake area as a whole,” states WLIB Chief, Ann Louie. “We’ve been working on this project for two years, and now we’re poised to begin construction of the infrastructure this year, with the intention that the bulk of the work will take place in 2013.”

Having lived in Williams Lake for most of her life, Jesse Madden discovered her love of photography in the ‘dark room’ during her second year at Okanagan University College (OUC).

Jesse graduated from OUC with a Fine Arts Diploma in 1999. Jesse then was accepted into the North Island College Professional Photography program and spent 10 months immersed in nothing but photography before graduating with a diploma in 2000. She did photography-related work in Victoria for four years before moving back to Williams Lake in 2005.

Daphne Johnson, an avid consignment store shopper, has just opened her dream business at 19A Second Avenue North. It is the only consignment store in the area. Daphne says, “I missed having a consignment store here and I have had a lot of feedback that others have missed it as well. I believe in recycling, so this venture was perfect for giving back to the community.”

Two Doors Down Consignment offers ladies fashion and accessories. You can consign your goods here or they will buy them outright from you. Consignment articles have a 90 day agreement. Daphne says, “We are now accepting consignment by appointment. We are now offering the Buyout option Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays after 4:30pm.” Appointments can be made by phoning or on their .  It is best to read the Buyout Agreement and the Consignment Agreement before making an appointment. Jim and Sandy Fehr are celebrating the tenth anniversary of their store WiseOwl Toys.

WiseOwl Toys was started when the economy in Williams Lake was not especially strong.  Gibraltar Mines was not operating, the mills were not hiring at the time and with Jim having to work with a contractor, he was away for weeks at a time. Searching for a way to have their family together, Jim attended a course at Community Futures Development Corporation of the Cariboo Chilcotin  (CFDC) to learn how to start a business.

Fulfilling a dream she’s always had, Darla Paterson recently opened Williams Lake’s newest fashion boutique, where shoppers can find unique and trendy items.

“I love clothing, and always thought that Williams Lake needed some new and unique items,” Darla said.
