Gang mentality and violence is nothing new
| Letters - Letter to the Editor |
With respect to the recent home invasion and assault incident in the local news, I have say, this is hardly new.
Gangs and related violence were around when I was a teen, and many generations before me. 'The Outsiders' era, way back to the 'Gangs Of New York' era and all over the world before that. It is still going on.
We watched this grow from the East Coast of America to the West, and then north into Canada. What lead it was television, cablevision. All these youth are trying to be cool like the bad guys on TV and in the news.
When I was a kid, I had Davey Crockett & John Wayne as heros to look up to. Who have the kids got now? 50 Cent? Lil' Wayne?
It is a social problem that all the laws and jails cannot change.
'We' as a people, as a society, must change. It starts at home and everywhere we go. It starts with manners and dignity and respect for one another.
