Female rugby players competed in try-outs this weekend for the Provincial U18 Rep Rugby team, which is highly competitive and takes only the best rugby athletes the Northern Zone has to offer.

The Northern Zone consists of schools in 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, Houston, Smithers and Prince George, and girls from all of these areas try out for a spot on the 25-girl roster that will make up the Northern Zone girls rugby team. Most young women who try out are 17 or 18 years old, but 16-year olds are allowed if they have the right skill level and parental permission.

Two camps are held to identify talent: one in Williams Lake and one other in Prince George on June 18. Athletes who are successful in the tryouts will be selected to form the Northern Zone Girl's Rugby team and will compete in the Provincial Tournament at UBC on the July 8-10 weekend.
