Williams Lake’s own hometown musician, Don Alder, has received the prestigious Brand Laureate International Brand Personality Award, making the acoustic guitarist only the second Canadian to receive the prestigious award.

In a ceremony on March 27, the President of the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation, Dr. K. K. Johan, said Alder received the award in honor of his status as a world-leading fingerstyle guitarist. What sets Alder apart from the crowd, he said, is his unique style of playing. Incorporating fingerpicking with simultaneous percussion to create a wall of sound. Listening to you play is a feast for the senses.

 

Alder is known for his lyrical and compelling songs, some haunting, some passionate, others hard-driving or light and teasing. In the APBF President’s words, Alder has created a distinctive sound that cuts right to the heart of the listener.

The President presented Alder with a 24-carat gold plated trophy.

 

The Brand Laureate Award is a distinctive award from the Pacific Asia Brands Foundation in Malaysia which is endorsed by many dignitaries including the King of Malaysia. The Award is conferred on Individuals who have contributed significantly to the lives of people around the world through their areas of expertise. Past recipients include Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and Canadian astronaut Chris Hatfield. Previous musicians to receive the award include Deep Purple, Kenny G., Earth Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan and Michael W. Smith.

Alder, who’s also known as a generous mentor to other musicians, will be touring the United Kingdom from July 17-31 and the west of the United States August 7–22. He also plans on releasing a new CD before the end of 2013.

If that’s not enough, Alder is also involved with the up-coming film 'Heart of a Dragon', the biopic of renowned Canadian Rick Hanson. The film’s Director, Michael French, asked Alder to write a very personalized blog about his growing up and the influences that got him where he is today, including the desire to help make a difference in the lives of others.
