TRU North Happenings

The spotlight is shining on: Ken Poulsen.

TRU North is sad to say goodbye to our Residential Construction Chief Instructor Ken Poulsen. Ken has been a part of the TRU North team since 2000, and worked for the TRU Kamloops campus since 1995 teaching cabinetry and timber framing courses. He is both a journeyman carpenter and cabinet maker, and has overseen seven different project homes in our area.

Originally from Denmark, Ken started in Vancouver and then moved on to the Thompson Okanagan and Cariboo Chilcotin areas. Now a resident of Williams Lake, Ken lives with his wife Linda and his favorite K9 friend George. He has three daughters, Anne-Marie, Susanne and Angelina. One of which completed the Residential Construction Program under his instruction. Ken plans to fill up his retirement by spending time with his grandchildren and working on his home and shop. He has three beautiful horses on 50 acres, one Belgian and two Persians.

When we asked him what he was most proud of during his time teaching at TRU North he replied, “I pride myself on never having one of the project homes recalled for inspection, the students really care about the quality of work. Watching their transformation throughout the program is pleasing.” Ken is sad to leave TRU North, but believes this is truly a great program and will continue to grow. "Carpentry is a trade where you get to work on projects from start to finish and end results are always a great feeling."

We are happy to have had Ken as a part of our team, and believe he brought great instruction to our campus. He leaves us with one of his favorite sayings, “Whatever you want to be, be good at it.”
