PostHeaderIcon ‘Cowboy Carnival’ kicks off rodeo for young cowboys and cowgirls

Events

The first and hopefully annual ‘Cowboy Carnival’ was a huge hit with young cowboys and cowgirls in Williams Lake this morning as they got take part in rodeo events like hay-bale roping, miniature pony petting, and barrel racing which consisted of three 3-gallon buckets and hobby horse that the kids had to ‘ride’ around the course.

The barrel bull riding stations were extremely popular, however, of the ten events the most popular stop ended up being one that wasn’t even planned. A skidsteer and farm tractor which were used for arena preparation and maintenance were the big draw! Kids clambered all over the pieces of equipment, honking horns, engaging the back-up beeper and mock-driving the cool farm machines.

Terris Billyboy's first ever 'Cowboy Carnival' in Williams Lake is a huge success

PostHeaderIcon Repair underway on washout near Horsefly

News

Repairs have begun on a washout that happened approximately 38 kms east of Horsefly area.

On April 5, Interior Roads maintenance crews who patrol the routes within their contract areas quite often, discovered the large washout which was likely caused by a spring freshet; a thaw resulting from snow and ice melt compounded by rainfall.

The road remains impassable from both directions, and there is no alternate route until the repairs are completed.

Karen and Kim Sepkowski were devastated by the loss of their Suffolk Punch gelding recently.  It also hit the other horses in the stable hard. Lincoln passed suddenly on March 16, and his driving partner of ten years, Bentley, became despondent.

The Sepkowski's embarked on a journey to find another gelding to pair with Bentley, but because the breed is so rare, it was next to impossible.

Rayel MacDonald: Williams Lake remembersBy Bev Boyle

Almost a year has passed since the tragic death of Rayel MacDonald and the hospitalization of her friend, Alysha Mullett. MacDonald and Mullett attended TRU Williams Lake together and were studying to become nurses.

On April 22, 2012, the girls had attended a local event and were walking with a group of people. They met with another group of people on the opposite side of Carson drive and when they attempted to cross Carson Drive (from north to south) they were struck by a pick-up which had been travelling downhill. The truck, an older model smaller pick-up, fled the scene.

BC Ambulance Service attended to the victims. Rayel MacDonald, 20, was pronounced deceased at the scene and Alysha Mullett, 20, was in critical condition and was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital with life threatening injuries.
