Police warn of powerful narcotic sold in Prince George recently

Heroin is a very strong and dangerous street drug. Recent test results on one package of seized drugs in Prince George have come back to be Fentanyl, a very powerful narcotic much stronger than heroin. The Fentanyl was thought by both police and the drug dealers to be heroin, as it had the same consistency, colour and packaging.

City crews are currently working to repair a broken 10-inch water main in the area of Hodgson Road.
Areas affected by the break are Hodgson Road near the Pioneer Complex, Wotzke Road, Westridge, Fairview Drive, and Country Club Boulevard. The cause of the break is unknown at this time. Residents in the affected areas will experience murky water, low water pressure, and in some cases,will have no water.
The City was notified of the break at approximately 6:00am. The City asks for residents’ patience, as repairs could take some time.
Residents affected by the water main break are invited to use Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex showers.
Controlled burn west of Williams Lake in mop-up stage today

The Cariboo Fire Centre and Wildfire Management Branch, working in cooperation with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and the Department of National Defence (DND) on a prescribed burn in the Chilcotin Training Area north of Riske Creek, is in the mop-up stage of the 300-400 hectare burn today.
Smoke from the burn may be visible, and some may even be able to smell it from Highway 20 and the Williams Lake area.
While the Military training camps are completely self-contained with water storage, fire suppression equipment and personnel dedicated to fire suppression, this controlled burn by trained wildfire management personnel from the Cariboo Fire Centre (CFC) will aid the DND training activities and exercises.
Prescribed burn near Riske Creek creates smokey skies

Smoke from a prescribed burn taking place in the Chilcotin Military Training area near Riske Creek could be seen on the horizon from downtown Williams Lake today.
The Wildfire Management Branch is conducting the burn in partnership with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and the Department of National Defence as part of an eco-restoration project.
Man with gun in Boitanio Park arrested

At 3:15pm this afternoon, the Williams Lake RCMP responded to Boitanio Park for a complaint of a man pointing a gun.
Police immediately attended and located a male in the park fitting the suspect description.The suspect was found to be in possession of a loaded rifle and other weapons. The suspect has been arrested and is in custody.
This is believed to be a retaliatory incident stemming from an earlier conflict.
The investigation is continuing and appropriate charges will be considered when more information is known.

Rescued bear cubs returning to the Cariboo

Four bear cubs rescued by the Northern Lights Wildlife Society in Smithers will soon be released near to where they came from.
Two of the cubs are from Williams Lake, one is from Riske Creek and the other is from Likely. The cub from Likely is aptly named ‘Likely’, after the community that helped rescue him after his mother was killed by a vehicle. ‘Cara’ was found around Riske Creek where it was reported she was alone at the time.

Three serious-injury crashes in the area yesterday

At approximately noon on Wednesday, April 24, first responders in Horsefly were joined by BC Ambulance Service, Central Cariboo Search and Rescue and the Williams Lake RCMP at the scene of a rollover accident.
A flatdeck truck hauling a load of hay crashed near Jessica Lake Road. Both occupants of the truck were injured, one seriously.
Another single vehicle rollover near Big Lake at approximately 7:40pm resulted in very serious injuries, as well.

Mid-week bank robbery and drug bust in Williams Lake

A lone male was reported to have walked into the TD Canada Trust bank on 2nd Avenue North yesterday afternoon at 4:45pm, and demanded cash while brandishing a knife.
After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the male fled.
Within minutes , RCMP located the suspect at a nearby residence. The adult male from Williams Lake was arrested and is presently in custody and held for a court appearance at a later date.
Early morning ‘bomb threat’ being investigated in Williams Lake

This morning at 8:00am, the Williams Lake RCMP received a call for service of a ‘bomb threat’ at the City of Williams Lake public works yard. The RCMP immediately attended and cordoned off the area.
At this time, the investigation reveals that this is most likely a hoax although further investigation is required.
**Updated at 11:42am: Williams Lake RCMP have advised that, while the investigation continues, they can confirm that the event was a hoax and the person responsible has been arrested.
