This week in the Cariboo you can conquer an iceberg at the pool, join the Williams Lake Dirt Riders for some high-octane thrills and enjoy chicken bingo and a tour at Big Bear Ranch. You can ‘Cruise for a Cause’ and practice bat pursuit on the lake.

New at the Cariboo Growers Market are nectarines, green peppers, large apples, cherry tomatoes and more.
The Market has sauerkraut (from Bluespoon Catering), granola bars from Simply Granola, more Gort’s Gouda Cheeses and once again we have dried beef treats for our ‘furry’ friends.
The Williams Lake Farmer's Market will be held in Boitanio Park every Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The market will be available until October 5. Join other bikers and members of the public for the 3rd Annual Williams Lake Toy Run today beginning at 12:00pm. The Williams Lake Dirt Riders Association’s rounds13 & 14 BCMA North Series continues today.
The Vegetarian Supper Club meets on the fourth Sunday of every month. Please bring your favorite vegetarian dish to share in this potluck-style evening and enjoy a food demonstration and health lecture. Dinner begins at 7:00pm at the Cariboo Lifestyle Centre, located at 26 Woodland Drive.

Maureen Chappell of Creative Hands offers a summer art program for ages 7 to 16 and will be available each Monday until August 27, 2012. There will be one class from 9:30am to 1:30pm at Miocene Hall, then a class at 150 Mile Hall from 2:30pm to 6:30pm. The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex Fitness Centre offers free orientations for those adults 55 and older. Registered personal trainer Judy Orosz will provide an orientation to the facility and teach you about how to use the equipment safely, gym etiquette, and what times of the day would be best for you to work out. She will help you gain confidence in using the equipment and answer any questions you have regarding your own fitness. Please call ahead to book your complimentary session. The Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake, with support from the Blue Jays Foundation, is holding Summer Baseball for families every Wednesday from 10am to noon at the Kiwanis Ball Diamond. Every Wednesday until August 22nd is ‘Wacky Wednesday’ at the pool from 1:00pm - 4:30pm. Each week there is a different theme with all kinds of games and prizes.

Get to know our lake from new perspectives today at 'Boats and Bats on the Lake'! Experience paddling a large Voyageur canoe at Scout Island with a BIG crew. (Please bring your own life jacket). Starting at 6:30 pm there will be short trips on the lake so everyone gets a turn, and anyone can participate. Then at about 8:30 pm, Anna Roberts will share her knowledge of local bat species. As darkness falls, we’ll use her bat detector to hear and possibly see bats swooping down from the bluffs to feed over the lake. This free evening program has become a popular August tradition, and it’s great fun for all ages. August 23rd, 2012 is Cruisin’ for a Cause Day 2012 at A&Ws across Canada. In 2011, Cruisin’ for a Cause raised over a million dollars for the MS Society of Canada, making it the largest single fundraising event in support of Ending MS in Canada. The Williams Lake Over 40's Activity Group is a group for singles and couples over 40 with similar and varied interests.
