Join the Food Policy Council in breaking ground on the new Community Memory Garden site at the bottom of Carson Drive! It has been two years in the making, but we are now ready to start building the garden. Work will start at 8:00am and will continue until 4:00pm, and Mayor Cook will be on site at noon for the official groundbreaking. There will be a free local lunch for volunteers, and lunch will be available to all for a small donation to the Food Policy Council. Organizers and volunteers will be cutting lumber for and assembling 40 raised garden plots, starting to build a section of the fence (fencing will be to define the garden space), shoveling, shoveling and more shoveling of soil into the newly made garden beds. Volunteers are advised to bring their own water. If you have shovels and/or cordless drills you can bring, PLEASE DO! This is an open invitation to ANYONE interested - there will be jobs for all ages and skill levels. We hope to see everyone there! Please RSVP to Michelle Daymond via Facebook or Cody Slinn 250-392-9429 prior to the event so we can best coordinate the work day, but you are still welcome even if you have not RSVP'd.
