Friday July 20

The Cariboo Chilcotin Metis Association is holding their annual ‘Funday Picnic’ at the Felker Lake Legion Campgrounds this weekend, July 20, 21, and 22. All are welcome to join the much-anticipated jam session and enjoy rollicking fiddle music by musicians from around the province, and the potluck dinner tomorrow. All are welcome—come and enjoy some fellowship and fun.

A psychic fair at the Pioneer Complex begins this afternoon and continues throughout the weekend. Topics include clairvoyance, palmistry, past lives, astrology, taro cards, auras, numerology, healing, crystal balls and crystals. Sessions are Friday 2:00pm to 10:00pm, Saturday 11:00am to 10:00pm and Sunday 11:00am to7:00pm.

The Williams Lake Farmer's Market will be held in Boitanio Park every Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The market will be available until October 5. They have local crafts, canning, food, live music and many wonderful products from local artisans and producers. For more information phone Debbie Lloyd before 8:00pm at 250-989-1522.

Saturday July 21

The Metis Association ‘Funday Picnic’ continues at the Felker Lake Legion Campgrounds.

Come and enjoy the Oliver Street Market today in Herb Gardner Park from 9:00am to 2:00pm with farm-fresh organic veggies, fresh coffee, live entertainment, gift ideas, artists, vendors and more.

There will be a Craft and Flea Market in the 150 Mile Centre parking lot every Saturday and Sunday until September 30, 2012. The market will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Table space costs $10.00 per day or $15.00 for the weekend. See Dianne at the 150 Mile Husky or call 250-296-4515 to reserve a spot.

Sunday July 22

The Metis Association ‘Funday Picnic’ continues at the Felker Lake Legion Campgrounds, winding up in the afternoon.

Anyone up for a game of Crib or Shuffle Board? Come to the Legion at 1:00pm on Sundays for a game or two in a relaxing, friendly atmosphere.

The Vegetarian Supper Club meets on the fourth Sunday of every month. Please bring your favorite vegetarian dish to share in this potluck-style evening and enjoy a food demonstration and health lecture. Dinner begins at 7:00pm at the Cariboo Lifestyle Centre, located at 26 Woodland Drive.

Monday July 23

The Williams Lake TRU Basketball Summer Sport Camp kicks off today for a weeklong event. Starting in 2012 TRU and TRU Williams Lake are proud to extend our Summer Camp Basketball Program to the Williams Lake Campus! This basketball camp is designed to improve the offensive skills and mindset of campers. The focus of these camps will be to facilitate the development of offensive skills on and away from the ball as well as progressive skill development in all fundamental components of basketball. Taught skills will include dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding, defence and team-play. Campers will develop both team and individual basketball skills and concepts through interactive session with their coaches. The camps are 9:00am-noon for ages 8-12 and from 1:00pm-4:00pm for ages 13-17. The costs are $125 per camper (includes shirt, ball cap, an achievement certificate and lots of fun and development!) The TRU Sport Camp Instructors and TRU Varsity Basketball athletes are Kevin Pribilisky and Brett Parker.

Maureen Chappell of Creative Hands offers a summer art program for ages 7 to 16 and will be available each Monday until August 27, 2012. There will be one class from 9:30am to 1:30pm at Miocene Hall, then a class at 150 Mile Hall from 2:30pm to 6:30pm. This nine-week program will feature a variety of techniques to enable students to develop new skills while they work with a number of materials, creating one-of-a-kind projects If you have more than one child who would like to attend, call about a family rate. Satya Yoga Studio and Art 4 Wellness have teamed up to bring you YogArt - Yoga and art for youth. Start with 40 minutes of yoga specific for the kiddos, teenyboppers and young adults, and then it’s a walk upstairs for an hour and a half of creative fun. The Transition Towns committee and the Council of Canadians are hosting Kim Slater this evening, a young woman who is running along the route of the proposed Enbridge pipeline this summer. Kim is running the pipeline route to raise awareness of the issues surrounding the pipeline in communities along its path. Tonight, she will be speaking to a group of citizens in Williams Lake at the Central Cariboo Arts Centre at 7:00pm. You are cordially invited to attend and to ask questions of Kim and the other attendees.

Tuesday July 24

Free Storytime in Kiwanis Park will be available each Tuesday from 10:30am to 11:00am under the tree. This event is weather permitting and is for all ages. For more information, call the library at 250-392-3630.

Wednesday July 25

The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex Fitness Centre offers free orientations for those adults 55 and older. Registered personal trainer Judy Orosz will provide an orientation to the facility and teach you about how to use the equipment safely, gym etiquette, and what times of the day would be best for you to work out. She will help you gain confidence in using the equipment and answer any questions you have regarding your own fitness. Please call ahead to book your complimentary session. The Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake, with support from the Blue Jays Foundation, is holding Summer Baseball for families every Wednesday from 10am to noon at the Kiwanis Ball Diamond. This activity is free, is for all ages, and all the gear is provided. Register with David by calling 250-392-5730.

Every Wednesday until August 22nd is ‘Wacky Wednesday’ at the pool from 1:00pm - 4:30pm. Each week there is a different theme with all kinds of games and prizes.

The Williams Lake Over 40's Activity Group is a group for singles and couples over 40 with similar and varied interests. Activities may include dinners, hiking, camping, movies etc. We are always looking for more ideas and people willing to host activities. There is a seniors lunch on the fourth Thursday of each Month upstairs at the Legion at noon.

The Performance in the Park this week, sponsored by Zirnhelt Timber Frames Ltd, features ‘Mill Girl Follies’ at 5:00pm and ‘Carmen & Dena’ at 7:00pm in Boitanio Park. Please check out the Performances in the Park Facebook page for updates and information on the Summer Performances in the Park concert series. These concerts will take place every Thursday evening in Boitanio Park from 5:00pm – 8;00pm until August 16th.

Each Thursday, the Legion Branch 139 hosts Pasta Thursday, a Legion fundraiser. Dinner is from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and includes pasta and sauce, garlic bread, and Caesar salad, all for just $6.00. The Legion would like to welcome the community to participate in this wonderful evening of good food and great company.
