It’s summer in the Cariboo, with great seasonal activities like fun in the pool, the 86th annual Williams Lake Stampede Parade and Street Party, Canada Day fun, a tour and pit-cooked dinner at Xatsull Heritage Village and stories for kids in Kiwanis Park.
Friday June 29
Come and enjoy breakfast, lunch, and steak night at the Legion this weekend. From 7:00am to 10:30am, enjoy breakfast at the Royal Canadian Legion for $6.00, then join them for lunch, which will be ‘Beans and a Bun’ for $5. As always, Steak Nite will include all the trimmings and all the fun for only $13.00 and begins at 6:30pm. A dance to Perfect Match will follow.
JobFest is rolling through BC this summer, bringing live music and career info to youth across the province. The tour will stop in Williams Lake on June 29 and be here until July 1, 2012.
The Williams Lake Farmer's Market will be held in Boitanio Park every Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The market will be available until October 5, 2012. They have local crafts, canning, food, and many wonderful products from local artisans.
Saturday June 30
Come and enjoy the Oliver Street Market today in Herb Gardner Park from 9:00am to 2:00pm with farm-fresh organix veggies, fresh coffee, live entertainment, gift ideas, artists, vendors and more.
This is 'Celebration of Legion’ week. Come and enjoy breakfast for only $6.00 from 7:00am to 10:30am, then have lunch from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. In celebration of Legion Week, hot dogs and hamburgers will be free and music will be provided by the Old Time Fiddlers. Steak Nite will begin at 6:30pm and costs $13.00 with a dance to Mark Allen Music.
The Williams Lake 86th Stampede Parade will entertain thousands today from 10:00am to approximately 11:30am, followed by the Street Party. There will be vendors, live entertainment, a car show, games and activities for kids in front of Wise Owl Toys and much, much more!
Head to the beautiful Bella Coola Valley on Canada Day long weekend for the Annual Bella Coola Rodeo; kick up yer heels at the beer gardens on Saturday and Sunday night to the tunes of Ian Estabrooks and the 'Off the Wahl Band'.
There will be a Craft and Flea Market in the 150 Mile Centre parking lot every Saturday and Sunday until September 30, 2012. The market will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Table space costs $10.00 per day or $15.00 for the weekend.
Sunday July 1
Canada Day breakfast is available at the Legion this morning from 7:00am to 10:30am for only $6.00, and lunch will be a beef dip for $5.00. Veterans eat free and music will be provided by Mark Allen.
There will be a Canada Day Celebration in Boitanio Park today beginning at 2:00pm. Bring your community spirit and help celebrate Canada Day with story telling, interactive games, theatre sports, face painting, cake, and more. All events will be held in the Gwen Ringwood Theatre in the park
Anyone up for a game of crib or shuffle board? Come to the Legion at 1:00pm on Sundays.
Xatśūll Heritage Village is hosting a traditional Pit-Cooking Dinner today beginning at 2:00pm. Pit-Cooking was used on a daily basis for the Secwepemc. A hole is dug and lined with lava rocks, a stick placed in the middle acting as a steam vent. Join in for a delicious dinner and try the recipes that are handed down from generation to generation. At 3:30pm, enjoy a guided tour of Xatśūll Heritage Village, then the pit-cooking dinner at 6:00pm. Reservations are required and the price per person is $22.00 for dinner only or $32.00 for dinner and the guided tour. Xatśūll Heritage Village is located right on the Fraser River. From Williams Lake, head north on Highway 97. After 35 km follow the signs to Xatśūll Heritage Village and turn left off the highway. Monday July 2
Maureen Chappell of Creative Hands offers a summer art program for ages 7 to 16 and will be available each Monday until August 27, 2012. There will be one class from 9:30am to 1:30pm at Miocene Hall, then a class at 150 Mile Hall from 2:30pm to 6:30pm.This nine-week program will feature a variety of techniques to enable students to develop new skills while they work with a number of materials, creating one-of-a-kind projects. The cost is $40.00 per week or register for all nine weeks for $330.00. Tax and supplies are included. If you have more than one child who would like to attend, call about a family rate. Fifty percent of the fee is due at registration time. Creative Hands reserves the right to cancel if there is insufficient interest. There will be no refund or credit if a student cancels within seven days of the course start date
Tuesday July 3
Free Storytime in Kiwanis Park will be available each Tuesday from 10:30am to 11:00am under the tree. This event is weather permitting and is for all ages.
Wednesday July 4
The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex Fitness Centre offers free orientations for those adults 55 and older. Registered personal trainer Judy Orosz will provide an orientation to the facility and teach you about how to use the equipment safely, gym etiquette, and what times of the day would be best for you to work out. She will help you gain confidence in using the equipment and answer any questions you have regarding your own fitness. Please call ahead to book your complimentary session.
Join everyone at Sam Ketcham Memorial Pool all summer for Wacky Wednesdays from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. Wacky Wednesday themes include 'Canada Day' on July 4, 'Sports Day' on July 11, 'Tropical Day' on July 18, 'Jungle Day' on July 25, 'Pirate Day' on August 1, 'Waterfight Day' on August 8, 'Survivor Day' on August 15, and an 'End of Summer Bash' on August 22.

Williams Lake Over 40's Activity Group is a group for singles and couples over 40 with similar and varied interests. Activities may include dinners, hiking, camping, movies and more. The TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) BC Group 4145 meets every Thursday across from Safeway. The meetings are from 8:45am to 10:00am.
Each Thursday, the Legion Branch 139 hosts Pasta Thursday, a Legion fundraiser. Dinner is from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and includes pasta and sauce, garlic bread, and Ceasar salad, all for just $6.00. The Legion would like to welcome the community to participate in this wonderful evening of good food and great company.
