Vehicle fire on Mackenzie and bonfire on North Lakeside
| News |

Williams Lake RCMP and Fire Department attended a vehicle fire just before 5:00am this morning at the 4000 block between Frizzi Road and Mackenzie Avenue.
A 1981 GMC truck was on fire down a 10’ bank. Witnesses say that it did not appear to have rolled down—but that it may have been driven to the spot where it burned.
Two Williams Lake Fire Department trucks and 13 fire fighters attended the scene and the fire was completely out in approximately 45 minutes.
Williams Lake Fire Chief Randy Isfeld said that the department also received a call of a fire on North Lakeside just before 10:00pm last night. The fire was part way up White Road where the power lines cross, and was the result of a bonfire that got out of control due to windy conditions.
“It appears that kids were having a party and had built a big bonfire, which the wind blew up into the bush,” Fire Chief Isfeld explained. “We had to dig into it quite a bit to extinguish it.”
He said that fire fighters were on scene for over an hour. “It had the potential to turn into an interface situation—burning up toward Fox Mountain,” he continued. “People need to use common sense when starting fires this time of year.
“There’s a reason there’s a fire ban in the bush, and this was much larger than a campfire. Every fire has the potential to get out of control.
“They all start out small.”
