Air Canada makes unscheduled landing in Williams Lake
| News |
At approximately 7:00pm on Saturday, August 4, there was an unscheduled landing at the Williams Lake airport. An Air Canada (Jazz) plane en route from Vancouver to Prince George with approximately 25 passengers on board landed 'in distress' due to an overheated battery.
Williams Lake Fire Department training officer Rob Warnock said that when the pilot performed a regular systems check, the equipment response said to 'land the plane.'

"He had to land the plane-if it had really overheated it would have started a fire," Rob said. "He followed safety protocol and did all the right things."
RCMP responded to the scene, as well as the Williams Lake Fire Chief and a fire truck with about eight fire fighters.
"The airline got hold of their call centre, and Air Jazz BC showed up and they got the battery replaced, "Rob continued. "We stayed long enough to see if there was anything we could do---everyone was OK."
Witnesses on scene observed luggage being unloaded from the plane, and one passenger said it was unclear whether they would stay overnight in Williams Lake. Rob Warnock said that options discussed were waiting until the plane was operational or sending a bus to transport the passengers to Prince George.
"There were passengers concerned with making connecting flights, but bottom line-no one was injured," Rob said. "I saw one passenger thanking the pilot for landing the plane and keeping them safe."
