| News |
At approximately 3:30am this morning RCMP, BC Ambulance and the Fire Department responded to a fire at Slumber Lodge Motel. RCMP went door to door to see if there were occupants in the rooms while fire fighters removed bedding from the room where the smoke was coming from and extinguished the fire.

Inspector Warren Brown said this morning that they located one individual, well known to police, who had been staying on site, and removed him from the area. "Our concern is that the place is a tinderbox waiting to go up in smoke and that it's being used as a 'flop house,'" he stated. "We have let the City know about this, and our understanding is that they are taking legal steps with the owners, who don't live in the community."
He said that they are very thankful for the concerned citizen who phoned police about the smoke. "Thank goodness for that person," he said, adding that no one was injured in the incident.
