Kayla Moleschi receives 'Certificate of Merit' Award tonight

A 'Certificate of Merit' Award was presented to Kayla Moleschi at tonight's council meeting.
"I know her as a hardworking, sincere individual and are proud to present her with this award," Mayor Cook said.
"Having a community behind you is everything--people who cheer you on and believe in you," Kayla said. "I hope to become an Olympian and represent my home town."
Last fall Kayla Moleschi made her debut on the world rugby scene with the Canadian Senior Womens team, helping Canada win the first IRB Women’s Challenge Cup in Dubai. She was the first Canadian to earn this honour.
Kayla began playing rugby as a Grade 9 student at Columneetza Secondary School, and was a success from her very first game. She was selected to play on her regional team to compete in the Provincial Regional.
Championships in 2007. She was also selected for the BC U17 team, which took Gold at the National Championships n Newfoundland.
She participated at the U19 Women’s Provincial Regional Championships for the Cariboo, and saw her team win Silver Medals in the 2008 and 2009 National Finals.
Kayla was selected to play on the Canadian U20 team, participating in two games against the USA---the first in Tampa, Florida and the second in the final of the NACRA tournament in the Bahamas last year.
In 2011 Kayla joined the inaugural BC U23 team to play in the Tier Two Division at the National Women's League Finals in Vancouver. This fall she played exceptionally for the Lethbridge Pronghorns where she was recognized as Canada West Rookie of the Year and CIS All-Canadian.
