“Afghan Luke” is directed by Mike Clattenburg, well known for creating, writing and directing “The Trailer Park Boys” series for 10 years and their movies. “Afghan Luke” stars Nick Stahl, a veteran actor at 21 years old. Nick won critical acclaim for portraying the slain teenager in “In the Bedroom” starring Sissy Spacek, Tom Wilkinson and Marisa Tormei.

Dan Carr, Locations Manager, says this is his 7th film he’s worked on in the Thompson-Nicola Region (“The Secret of Giving” with Reba McEntire, “The Pledge” with Jack Nicholson, the pilot for “Smallville” with John Schneider, “Afghan Knights” with Michael Madsen, “Joyride 2”, and last year “Flicka 2” with Patrick Warburton, Tammin Sursok , and Clint Black). Carr loves filming in the TNRD “This area looks so dramatically different than Vancouver, and yet you’re only three and a half hours away. The locations are incredibly beautiful and there are so many looks you can get here. Plus they’re close to the services a production needs, and on top of that, the people here are always really helpful and friendly. I love it here”.  “Afghan Luke” will be filmed in the Thompson-Nicola region and Nova Scotia from end of March – mid-May.

Vicci Weller, Executive Director of Film “This is the third project where we’ve doubled for Afghanistan – the first being the TV mini-series “Traffic” and the other “Afghan Knights”. However, in “A Team” which filmed here last year and releases into movie theatres June 10, 2010, doubled for Mexico.

Roland Stanke, Chair of the film commission “This year marks our 10th year anniversary and it’s really exciting to see are successes in movie theatres and in DVD rental stores. We’re building up quite a library of films and we’ve many super stars and major directors and producers in our region. But all this wouldn’t be possible without the financial support from the TNRD Board of Directors and the Province of BC Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, that fund our film commission. We were just made aware of the Province’s continued funding based on our performance and we’re happy that they believe and support what we do.” For more information about casting, contact the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Film Commission (250) 377-8673 or the film commission’s web site www.tnrdfilm.com.
