062112_swim_fins_1Yesterday the annual awards night and annual general meeting for the Williams Lake Blue Fin Swim Club took place at the Glendale school gymnasium.

‘Swimmer of the Year’ was awarded to Danika Robson, ‘Hardest Trainer of the Year’ went to Tracey Beauchamp (Sr.) and Morgan Haskins (Jr.) ‘Sportsman of the Year’ was presented to Geneva Gordon and ‘Most Improved Swimmer’ went to Daniel Rich (Sr.) and Octavia Rusch (Jr.).

Sylar Martin (Jr) and Alexandro Brinoni (Super Novice) won ‘Rookie of the Year’, Madison Blusson (34) and Tennale Sailor (34) took ‘Most Best Times’,  Mari-Ann Russell won ‘Parent of the Year’.

Coral Choi set three new club records in the 2012-2013 season:

*50m breast stroke 36.67, beating Tara Kay’s record from 1990

*100m breast stroke 1:22.11, beating her own record set last season

*200m breast stroke 3:01.54, beating Jen Radolla’s record from 1991

Keanna Saunders and Leif Brandson took top place in ‘Top Swimmer 8 and Under’, Maia Vitoratos and Liam McCreight won ‘Top Swimmer 9 and 10’, Coral Choi and Raeyden Beauchamp were awarded ‘Top swimmer 11 and 12’, Danika Robson and David Russell took ‘Top swimmer 13 and 14’, and ‘Top swimmer 15 and over’ went to Tracey Beauchamp and Jeremy Zwiers.

Work Ethic Medals went to Kara Zavits, Ashley Beauchamp, Dana Rook, Taylor Fitzgerald, Madison Blusson, Nadia Klaue, Mitchell Ryan and Karlee Smith.

Team Spirit Medals were awarded to Abbi Taylor, Natasha Johnson, Kelsey Blokland, Tennale Sailor,  Monica Rawlek, Jonathan Russell, Lindsay Sanford and Drew Woodford.

Blue Fins Coach Marilyn Haines won great praise for the swimmers’ receiving awards and medals during the event. Marilyn also thanked the assistant coaches who helped during the season.

There was also the election of officers for the Blue Fin’s 2012-2013 season that begins in September. Before the officers were selected Blue Fins outgoing president Dale Taylor gave thanks to the outgoing officials who gave their time this past season. The board for the upcoming swim season is as follows:

President – Denis Beauchamp

Vice-president – Martine Cyr

Secretary – Darla Robson

Treasurer – Wally Saunders

Registrar – Mandie Blusson

Gaming – Jerome Beauchamp

Directors-at-large – Sharon Haynes, Ellen Paynton, Marilyn Haines and Patti Blokland
