For a handful of Columneetza Secondary school students, violence in their school is stopping with them. Grade 10 student Sydney Goward says it’s about stepping in and taking responsibility.
They’re usually on the football field, but on Wednesday, BC Lions Travis Lulay and Angus Reid were playing a different role. They have been touring the province, spreading their message of being more than a bystander – stepping in when you see something wrong and making it known that it’s simply – the right thing to do.

19 cadets march in formation – friends, family and members of the RCMP watching from the stands – these young men and women just completed a week-long RCMP youth academy – the first of its kind in Williams Lake.
The ceremony means a certificate of completion, a handshake with Staff Sergeant Brissard and of course pictures in front of loved ones. For the cadets themselves, the week was likely one they’ll never forget.

Bel Hume works on a quilt that will soon be in the hands of a child over 15,000 kilometers away in Zimbabwe.
Tote bags made by people in Williams lake were now brightening the days of orphaned children halfway around the world thanks to Bill Wedel, a friend of Hume’s who owns property in Zimbabwe and delivered the gifts to the children.
