On Friday, Dick Harris, Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George, announced support for improvements to the Williams Lake Rugby Football Club’s clubhouse under the government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund.
The government’s investment of $31,338 will enhance the functions of the clubhouse and create jobs. With the funding being provided, the Williams Lake Rugby Football Club will improve its clubhouse by increasing the floor load, fixing fire separation problems, bringing guard rails up to code, adding a washroom and installing a wheelchair ramp.

“The Williams Lake Rugby Football Club deeply appreciates receiving the grant from the Western Economic Diversification’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. The grant will help the club to undertake renovations on their clubhouse facility,” said Rodger Stewart, President of the Williams Lake Rugby Football Club. “The funding will allow us to bring our facilities up to full public assembly standards, enabling more effective use of our grounds in support of training and community athletic events and allow the Williams Lake Rugby Football Club to improve its contribution to the local economy through sport-based tourism.”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure was announced. $150 million has been committed for the fund over two years. The fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
