Council to increase daily per diem rate for travel by 33 percent
| Local Politics |
On the City's website, in the 'City of Williams Lake Regular Council Agenda for Tuesday, March 5, 2013 item H (4) reads: "In-Camera Report #6-2013 re Increase in Daily Per Diem Travel Rate".
"Pursuant to the report of the Manager of Human Resources dated February 19, 2013 Council approve an increase in the daily per diem rate for travel from $60-$80."
This item is being brought forward at a regular meeting of Council to become a matter of public record.
Updated 5-March-13: After this story ran originally, Got News Network submitted some additional questions to the City’s Communication Coordinator, who provided the following information: “The per diem increase is a change to a Council policy that governs travel expenses for City Council and all employees in the performance of their duties. It was changed as a result of negotiations with the Union. The increase to the maximum allowed for meals and incidentals is actually to $80 from $67.20 per day, so it’s not a 33% increase. The total was changed from $60 to $67.20 a couple of years ago. The resolution (where Got News Network Inc. got the information for this article) does say $60, so that would be incorrect on the City’s part. This breaks down to a maximum of $15 for breakfast, $20 for lunch, $35 for dinner, and $10 for incidentals for a total of $80. There is no limit on consecutive days or an annual cap, but all travel expenses must fit within the budgets set for Council and staff travel and training.”
