052212_dog_parkCouncil is being asked tonight to approve the new dog park location in Boitanio Park, which was selected by the Community Services Committee. Council approved $15,000 toward the project in the budget, and the community group will raise the rest of the funds needed to develop the site.

Councillor Walters said that the community group met with staff for a 'walk-about' in the park to look at the proposed sites, and saw a larger spot with more trees, more 'character' and decided to go with that area instead.

"We are ready to fence the area and get it up and running, and other aspects will come in as the community group raises funds," said Councillor Walters. "We have budgeted $15,000 for the fencing and the rest can come later."

She said that, to have a dog park, the fencing is the most important element, with things like benches, signage and irrigation coming later.

The community group is working on priorities at this time, according to Councillor Walters, with subsequent reports coming to Council.
