City works to secure abandoned fourplex on Mackenzie Avenue

An abandoned fourplex at 3010 North Mackenzie Avenue was the site of two separate fires in May, and City of Williams Lake General Manager of Planning and Operations Geoff Goodall states that their clean-up efforts in the past two days have been to ensure that the property is secure.
On May 8 a fire consumed an approximately 20x25' outbuilding behind the fourplex and engulfed a wooden fence between properties. On May 15 recent fire damage was noticed at the residence, and when police attended and noted part of the exterior of the building smoldering, they called the Fire Department. The Williams Lake Fire Department responded and removed two sets of exterior stairs.
Geoff Goodall explained that although the City did not board up the residence, they have been cutting the grass and cleaning up the debris that resulted from the fire that burned the outbuilding.
“We want to ensure that the building remains secure—our concern is to prevent unauthorized access of the building,” he said. “We will take the necessary steps to give us that opportunity.”
