Horsefly River Salmon Festival begins today

The annual Horsefly Salmon River Festival began today, celebrating the return of a million sockeye salmon to their spawning grounds on the Horselfy River.
The festival runs until September 2, with activities for all ages. There will be knowledgeable salmon and river interpreters along the river across from the Horsefly Bridge, aSinging Workshop with Pharis Romero and a salmon egg float race on Sunday afternoon.
The Festival is supported by the Horsefly River Roundtable, made up of Scout Island Nature Centre, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Pacific Salmon Foundation, BC Hydro and Baker Creek Enhancement Society.

- Northern Shuswap Tribal Council: Freshwater fisheries and traditional salmon drying demos

2:00pm - 3:30pm - Singing Workshop with Pharis Romero
Come ready to sing! You'll work on some basic vocal skills - breathing and sounds - and learn some wonderful old roots songs to practice your new found skills. Great for all young and old, experienced and brand new. No need to bring anything but your voices and a willingness to have fun singing. NO charge!
