Culturally diverse gifts at Ten Thousand Villages
| Events |
Shoppers don’t have to travel around the world to find culturally diverse gifts in time for the holidays. Ten Thousand Villages is set up in Williams Lake for its 25th annual visit, bringing hand-made, recycled and fair trade treasures from 35 countries to the Cariboo Bethel Church.
“Products like olive oil and spices from Palestine, cocoa and organic coconut have been great sellers this year,” said Adina Neufeld, who was on site at the temporary ‘market’ today. “The Christmas decorations are more culturally suitable and priced low so they’re going quickly.”
Items included beautiful paper products made from recycled magazines and moisture sealed, made into hot pads and kitchen décor. There are wooden nativity scenes made from olive trees, chocolate products, and lots of recycled items, like bowls made from rubber washers.
There are decorations made from the top of steel drums and hand-pounded into a tree design, wooden decorative and keepsake boxes, linens, scarves, wall hangings and hand-woven baskets.
