Twenty two recipients will receive entrance scholarships and awards towards post-secondary education at Thompson Rivers University in Williams Lake.
Two scholarships of $5,000 and twenty awards of $2,000 will be given out to local students during secondary school graduations.

Over 40 high schooled students went to TRU to get an inside look at what to expect for their university future. The seminars were action packed. Students invented words, created green fire, learned how to find their pulse and laughed while doing it.

Featured faculty: Marten Lettinga
Marten Lettinga is the Chemistry and Physics Professor at TRU North. He started in 1989 when TRU was known as Cariboo College. They were initially working in conjunction with UBC to offer the Bachelor of Science Degree.
Marten grew up in the Netherlands, and it was there he discovered his love of science. He was fortunate enough to have an uncle who toured him around an agricultural science lab, where they focused on the anaerobic digestion of sewage.
TRU’s ‘I Give’ program helping students
This is done through an internal campus campaign that runs through April 1st to the 30th. Employees can donate any amount through their payroll deductions.

Name the Newsletter
Congratulations to Tahnea Bearhead, winner of the TRU North Name the Newsletter Contest. Tahnea won a brand new Ipad mini and a protective case. TRU will be issuing a quarterly newsletter to the aboriginal communities and organizations in the area. “The Moccasin Mile” was the chosen name. Tahnea is a dedicated TRU North student who is also a member of the student council.
Thanks to all of our participants for entering the contests. It was a tough decision!
TRU North forming a hockey team
Want to play hockey for TRU North?
TRU North is putting together its first ever hockey team to start in the fall of 2013! Players must be enrolled in one or more courses at TRU North. The team will compete against other teams in the community. It will be led by Coach Michael Shields, there is no age limit for players and all students are welcome.

TRU students celebrate completion of Short Order Cook program
Thompson Rivers University in recently partnered with TRU North Campus Coordinator, Grace Simpson, celebrates with students from the Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training Employment Centre as they complete the short order cook program in Williams Lake. in Williams Lake to host a nine-week Short Order Cook program.

The students were guided by Red Seal Chef Rob Hyde, from RH2 Food Services, in a 'hands on' approach to Short Order Cooking in a working kitchen and learned the basic skills required for working in a restaurant; prepping, cooking, and serving. The students will continue through the Workplace Essential Skills program identified by Service Canada, and some are currently doing practicums in local restaurants.
