After months of being asked if I had tried “that new restaurant” out yet, Mr O and I finally found ourselves seated at CJ’s Southwestern Grill for dinner one night last week.  Upon entering, we noticed that the interior didn’t seem to have changed much from the ‘Big Mama’ days: still retaining the same furnishings and hockey memorabilia.  We were seated in the lower level right next to the big screen projector, which actually had Mr O entranced for a moment because he had been without TV for so long, being out in Bella Coola without cable.

PostHeaderIcon Chicken curry and a plethora of cookies at Porky's Deli

It’s been awhile since I’ve written about any of the establishments in town and so today I decided to have lunch at Porky’s Deli.  I’m joined by Mrs C and Mr Jay, both of whom I haven’t seen in a long time.  It’s located right downtown on Second Avenue, in the strip plaza right next to the Bank of Montreal, where delicious food awaits you inside, but only if you can get past the rather intimidating parking lot right out front.

PostHeaderIcon Scrunching your face with delight at Thanh Vu Restaurant

In the seven years since we’ve moved up here, this past Labour Day was the first long-weekend *ever* that we’re not driving down to the Coast.  Kinda blows the mind how much driving we do!  However, that being said we still needed to go back-to-school clothes shopping for Mr O, so we decided to make a drive up to Prince George and make a day trip out of it.

PostHeaderIcon Potato perfection and a great fat cat at Graham Inn

Today’s adventure takes us out of the Cariboo region and into the neighbouring Chilcotin.  Mr O and I traveled westwards to Bella Coola and decided to stop some three hours later in Tatla Lake for food.  To the left of the highway was a cute blue building, topped with a red roof, sitting next to the water.  It was the Graham Inn and it looked as good as any place to try out.  The exterior looks cozy and comforting, and as we walked up onto the porch a great fat cat was there to greet us.

It’s snowing outside and temperatures are hovering around the minus 20 mark, and I pondered to myself… Why brave the outside weather when we live in an age where dinner can be brought *TO* you?  Right to your front door, in fact?  So with my mind set I scoured the phonebook and came up with basically two alternatives which deliver… pizza or Chinese food.

By a vote of 2-0, pizza won out and we decided to give the good folks at Red Tomato Pies a call.  They now sit where Canadian Pizza 2 for 1 used to be, and they must be doing something oh so right because I keep hearing good things about them.  Thus, I was quite comfortable venturing outside of my realm of comfort, where pizzas were concerned, to give them a try.

PostHeaderIcon Lunch at Beeotcheese Bistro and Bakery

The restaurant with what is probably the most mispronounced name in town is the Beeotcheese Bistro and Bakery.  Bee-yot-cheese… yes it sounds exactly like what you think it sounds like… but what a fun name!

Today I had lunch there with Mrs C and Mr Jay and we had a great time.  The first thing you see when you walk in is the display of freshly baked goods, all lovingly homemade of course.  Get some while they’re warm and you won’t regret it.

Once seated, you will be given two separate menus; their regular standard one which features a list of permanent food choices, and one that changes up every week.  If you’ve only ever ordered from their weekly menu (like I do) it’s like going to a new restaurant each time… and I’ve never been disappointed with anything I’ve ordered.

PostHeaderIcon Sushi California

You know that feeling you get when you’re craving raw fish?  Well that’s what I was experiencing yesterday, so after work I convinced Mr O to take me out for dinner at the local Japanese restaurant, Sushi California.

This establishment had its humble beginnings at the Williams Inn, but have moved to its current location just last summer and have since flourished.  Their menu is extensive and includes a variety of Japanese dishes, sashimi, traditional sushi and fusion sushi.  And if you’re not as keen on Japanese food as your companions are you will also find a selection of different Asian-type dishes, steak, and even western cuisine.
