Thyme for Tea and an adult scone

By Wai Chan
It’s Sunday afternoon and it’s an absolutely beautiful day outside, so what do you do? Why, you get together with your girlfriends and have lunch at Thyme for Tea of course! (Or you can always stay at home and watch the game with the guys I suppose). So today I met up with Miss M, Doc Kay, and Doc Bee for some tea at this quaint little restaurant. Doc Bee also brought her daughter, lil Miss Emma, along and she was such a cutie!
Calling all tea lovers, there is so much to choose from! There are two pages full of all varieties of tea. I wanted to try one of the designer teas that had jasmine and chrysthanthemum, but it was suited for two people, so instead I went with the basic jasmine green tea. Actually, we all chose different types of tea, and they all came in their own teapots, each with their own unique little cozy.
It was nice being able to relax and gossip, all the while savouring hot sips of tea, while waiting for our lunches. And it didn’t take long at all for the food to arrive. Lil Miss Emma had the kid’s platter and I was *JUST* able to take a quick snap of the plate before she went ahead and attacked it. A rubber dinosaur toy accompanies the food which consisted of half a PB&J sandwich, a dish of veggies with dip, fruit slices and a grape kabob, a frosty sugar cookie, and some candy treats. These are all finger-friendly foods, which is great for toddler-sized hands.

For myself I ordered the Painter’s Salad, which is their famous chicken salad on top of a bed of romaine, broccoli florets, chopped cauliflower, red cabbage, and carrots with sliced cucumbers and grape tomatoes for garnish. It had a hint of dill, as well as slivered almonds and dried cranberries which really added to the salad’s taste and texture. And it was absolutely fabulous! It came with a small scone and dressing on the side, which I only used sparingly because I thought the salad tasted great just the way it was. Together it was a combination of different flavours… saltiness from the chicken, tanginess from the dressing, and sweetness from the cranberries.
Doc Bee also had chicken salad but in a sandwich form. It comes with your choice of soup or salad, and she opted to go with the soup which happened to be creamy tomato. Both Doc Kay and Miss M went with the Sampler Plate, which consisted of your choice of a half sandwich or slice of quiche, as well as a bowl of soup and a side salad. Doc Kay asked for the quiche, which had in it sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and feta cheese, while Miss M asked for the sandwich, which was egg salad.

Everyone cleaned off their plates, which really wasn’t hard to do considering how tasty everything was. I didn’t even have room for dessert, which was disappointing because there was a cranberry cheesecake that sounded perfectly decadent. Both Doc Kay and Bee had room for a scone though! The lovely biscuit came with a side of Devonshire cream and jam, which had me salivating even though I already had my own baby scone to eat earlier.
For those that have never been to Thyme for Tea, the restaurant is situated within a very eclectic gift shop. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to browse through all those goodies after you’ve eaten. The merchandise is seasonal, and so there were lots of Christmas ornaments and décor to admire on today’s trip.
All in all, I thought this was an awesome way to spend an afternoon. Now I can’t wait to drag Mr O back here next weekend so that I can have that Chrysanthemum tea and an adult sized scone!
