Dogs have 42 adult teeth and cats have 36 adult teeth. The number of teeth in an animal’s mouth does not vary based on its size, so little dogs have the same number of teeth as big dogs, just crammed into a smaller space. Dogs and cats do not each as much junk food as people, but they can still develop tartar, gingivitis, and loose teeth.

Canine Influenza is a relatively new disease in dogs, caused by the Canine Influenza Virus, or CIV. Because it is new, most of the dog population has not been exposed to it, and has no immunity to it.
Research shows that if a group of dogs is infected, 10-20% will show no symptoms, and of the 80-90% that do get sick, only 20% will be very ill.

Did you know that nearly 85% of pets have periodontal (dental) disease by three years of age?
If you want to show your kids the importance of brushing regularly, lift up the dog or cat’s lips and take a look and a sniff. Sometimes the tartar build-up, gum recession, infection and smell can be a real surprise.
Gingivitis, or inflammation of the gums, is reversible, but the disease processes and bone loss that follow are not.
