(Submitted by Kerry Cooks campaign team, unedited.)
I am very aware of the ongoing limbo of this sawmill, and I empathize with the plight of these workers and their families. While other candidates are making grandiose promises and looking for short-term solutions at this point in the election campaign, I am also aware of the complexity and many facets of this issue that are far beyond Tolko’s control and the City’s control.
Right now, the supply outweighs the demand in regards to the forest industry in many of the resource-based communities in B.C. While I am always in favour of lobbying other levels of government in an effort to garner more jobs for people in Williams Lake, I also want to ensure that we are taking a big-picture approach to how we handle an issue such as this.

United Steel Workers endorse Scott Nelson's Tolko plan
Williams Lake United Steel Workers President Paul French said this morning that he endorses Mayoral Scott Nelson’s plan to go after Tolko to re-open the Creekside mill.
He said that Scott Nelson says that he plans to “use everything” to accomplish this goal, including going after federal and provincial Ministers.
He also stated that Walt Cobb has come out with a plan, adding that if Kerry Cook has one, the United Steelworkers want to hear about it.
“I applaud what Scott Nelson said today and I will let our members know that he has come forward with a response to my question to the Mayoral candidates at the Chamber of Commerce forum, which was ‘What will you do to help Tolko restart the sawmill?’”

Walt Cobb says meeting with Tolko tops his to-do list
(Submitted by Walt Cobb's election team)
Candidate for Mayor Walt Cobb is asking for a meeting with Tolko owners to discuss the future of the Creekside operation immediately after the election.
As I go door knocking the concern by people in Williams Lake, not necessarily just Tolko employees is, “what is happening to the Creekside or old Jacobson sawmill?”, said Cobb. People are asking what I could do as Mayor to find a solution, or, in a worst case scenario, find closure for the employees and the general public.

Ted Hlokoff running for CRD Director of Area J
(Submitted by Ted Hlokoff, unedited)
My name is Ted Hlokoff and I am running for CRD Director of Area J.
I have decided to run because it's more productive to do something about issues bothering me and my neighbors, rather than just complain about them.
My Great Uncle John Weldon settled the Precipice Valley in the early 1900s. My parents both passed away while living in this area and I move here and brought up my daughters in 1996. I have family history in this area and a vested interest is seeing this area prosper. I feel that I can help. My wife and I own and operate Anahim Lake Trading Store.
