First and foremost, this is a gift of gratitude to the faithful readers of Cariboo Coach’s Corner and the welcometowilliamslake.ca news website, as well as an invitation to anyone who has misplaced their holiday jolly!  

December is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and stressful times of the year.  The pressure to purchase the latest gadgets, expensive toys and sparkly bangles is relentless.  

Stores and television are continuously parading all the shiny things in front of us promising to make this season the happiest ever.  They tell us, ‘Buy him/her/them this perfect gift, then you will receive immeasurable joy, love and affection.’  The seduction is almost impossible to resist or ignore.   

Why?  Because, the creators of commercials know our basic needs and capitalize on a huge societal void.  There is an old saying in commerce, ‘Find the need and fill it!’  They found one.  A big one!

The marketing world knows that we are currently suffering from a deficit in real human connection. Automation and cyber market places have removed the need for face to face transactions we once experienced daily. We can  adequately conduct all our business from our IPod, laptop or other Internet accessible devices if we want.

Almost everyone has felt and experienced this depersonalizing process. Remember when the Instant Teller Machine was introduced?   Now the supemarkets have added the self-serve check-out line where we can scan, bag and pay for our own groceries. The necessity for person to person interaction is slowly becoming obsolete.

In fact, some family members have been known to ‘text’ each other from one end of the house to other. 

Industry and technology may view face-to-face connecting as the least cost effective way of doing business, however, their attitude is having marked and measurable effects on society as a whole.  Most of the populous are beginning to suffer from a strong sense of separation; a lack of meaningful connection to other Human Beings. A void—a chasm! 

The void is most tangibly felt and evident during the Christmas Season!

So it is understandable that we attempt to bridge the gap by whatever means possible. Consequently, the need for real connection is energetically bottle necked into the gift giving aspect of the holidays. Thus, our susceptibility to the hype surrounding a particular product is almost a given.  Is it any wonder how the anxiety builds around the hope of a certain outcome when buying and giving a gift?

If you find yourself running out of patience, nerves and shopping days before Christmas, recognize you are under a lot of outside pressure to 'get it right!'

Cut yourself some slack, allow yourself some breathing room, listen to your inner guidance and please, consider accepting a free taste of Life Coaching.  You may reconnect with your peace and your authentic jolly!
