Brenda and Andrea Hughes are owners at IBEA’S Quilting and Crafts Galore, and understand first-hand the satisfaction of crafting, as well as how important it is to have a good source of supplies and inspiration.

IBEA’s Quilting sells quilting products and notions, acrylic paints, needle working supplies, as well as hand-made quilts, runners and other crafted creations.
Customers say that you can find more than thread and fabric in the store—you can also find a sense of accomplishment, companionship and self-expression in a social, laid-back atmosphere. “We sell creativity and fun and when you walk in the door, you’re a friend,” Andrea explained. “It’s not what we sell, it’s who we are—we have bend-over-backward service and free ideas and inspiration.”
One quilter added that when she saw the ‘block of the month’ she fell in love with quilting all over again. “I come and sit here with friends: you sit and relax and regain your sanity,” she said.
They sell Bernina and Brother sewing machines, and provide repairs, servicing and parts for all models. They also carry supplies for glass etching, and can order things you need for your favourite crafting projects.
“We sell ceramic bisques and offer drop-in ceramic classes and painting classes,” Brenda said. “We provide lessons and classes in all kinds of needle point, including cross stitching and embroidering---we’re learning Brazilian stitching right now.”
Andrea said that they have DMC floss and wool for cross stitch and embroidery, baby and specialty yarns Brazilian embroidery, cotton and silk thread. “We make needle work as easy and painless and satisfying as possible---we take the ‘cross’ out of ‘cross-stitch,’” she continued. “Bring your ideas and thoughts and we’ll help with the details.”
Brenda and Andrea said that it’s satisfying to help keep needlework, quilting and crafting skills and traditions alive for future generations. “Many people learn them from a grandparent or other family member, and it’s important that these skills are shared and enjoyed,” Andrea continued. “That’s part of what we do here: people can come and use our space to sew and socialize---we can offer light instruction and help you get through a rough spot.
“You learn a lot of life-qualities doing these crafts, like patience and self-expression,” she said. “Seeing yourself getting better gives you confidence and a sense of completion.”
IBEA’s Quilting and Crafts is located at 96 North 3rd Avenue. For more information about repairs, parts, supplies or classes, phone 250-392-7748 and visit their website at www.ibeasquilting.com
