Single ladies buying homes
| Money Matters |

By Amber Stuart
It’s becoming increasingly apparent that a greater number of women are now taking the reigns when it comes to home purchases. There’s a growing trend among single women – and more precisely professional single women – who are becoming independent homeowners.
Creation of shows like HGTV’s Buy Herself, which follows single women making their first real estate purchases, shows many of them may be putting off marriage but they’re not waiting around for Mr. Right before taking the plunge into homeownership.

This past week I have heard from constituents expressing their outrage over recent events involving four Senators and the former Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office. Firstly, I hope the actions of these few individuals don’t lead you to paint all Senators with the same brush. We are fortunate to have Senators like Nancy Greene Raine who are dedicated to serving the people of British Columbia and Canada with integrity and honour.
In regards to the recent allegations, all taxpayers are rightfully intolerant of any abuse of their hard earned dollars, and this case is no different. I am equally frustrated and unhappy with these allegations of abuse of public funds. I am troubled that Parliament is constrained by a set of legislative rules that do not allow us to remove someone from public office for a breach of trust. However, if someone is in contravention of the law there are a number of actions that can be taken.
City to focus on boulevard parking bylaw
| Local Politics |
In order to ensure that vehicles are not illegally parked on boulevards, the City will focus on enforcement of the 2011 Boulevard Parking Traffic Control Bylaw, which prohibits boulevard parking in residential zones without an approved boulevard parking spot approved by the City.
Vehicles parked on City boulevards can impede safe snow removal, obstruct clear sight lines for motorists and cyclists, and can be a factor in unsightly properties. Residents are reminded that vehicles parked illegally on the boulevard could be subjected to fines and/or towed.
